Should Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) buy Blackberry maker Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM)?…Henry Blodget of The Business Insider believes there are several reasons that could lead one to that conclusion. Talking with Bloomberg’s Betty Liu this morning about the outlook for the smartphone market, Blodget points out that if Microsoft wants to be an actual player in the mobile market, acquiring RIMM, which holds 52% of the U.S. market share, would be the way to go.

We can definitely see the validity of Blodget’s argument. Microsoft has already lost the war over search to Google (NYSE:GOOG). It now runs the risk of losing the next search war, that in the mobile computing world where the future of the internet is.

By buying the dominant competitor in this space, Microsoft would own the market for Smartphone-based apps. Having said that however, a potential acquisition of RIM by M’soft would be hostile and certainly pricey for the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant.
