Mexican mogul Carlos Slim, the world’s richest man, has added a new trophy, the magnificent Duke mansion across New York’s Fifth Avenue from the Met Museum of Art.
According to The NY Post, Slim paid $44 million in cash for the 12-bedroom townhouse, which was built in 1901 and owned for 103 years by the Duke family, tobacco titans of the 19th century, after he outbid a mystery Russian buyer who offered $37 million to own the landmark.
“The Russian would have likely upped the bid, but never had the chance,” a source told The Post.
Forbes reported Slim’s net worth this year at $53.5 billion.
