The Consumer Confidence Index increased to 60.6 (1985=100) in December after decreasing to 53.3 in December from 54.3 in November. The index was expected to increase with the consensus at 54.6. The Present Situation Index increased to 31.0 from 24.9. The Expectations Index increased to 80.3 from 72.3 in December. Consumer opinion about current market conditions was more positive and the short term outlook was more optimistic than in December.
