Microsoft’s (MSFT) Surface Pro 3 Docking Station Available For Pre-order

Microsoft (MSFT) today announced that the docking station designed exclusively for the Surface Pro 3 owners can now be pre-ordered from Microsoft’s online store for $199.99. The accessory, which has several ports to turn your new Surface into a full desktop experience, comes packed with improvements from the original docking station.

“Surface is all about productivity, and next to the Surface Pro 3 device itself, nothing shouts productivity as loudly as clicking into the new Docking Station. It instantly turns your Surface Pro 3 into a full-blown desktop PC, giving you easy access to your external monitors, keyboard, mouse, printer, speakers, and more,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

The docking station for the Surface Pro 3, which Microsoft designed it to be a replacement for both laptops and tablets, features five USB ports – three USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 – and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The accessory that measures 12.9 x 3.8 x 4.4 inches, and weighs 1.43 pounds, also supports up to 3 monitors (the Surface itself, and 2 external screens) and comes with a security lock slot, a feature missing from the original Surface Pro/Surface Pro 2 dock.

Microsoft is touting the Surface Pro 3 Docking Station as offering the ability to turn your Surface Pro 3 into a desktop. “The Surface Pro 3 Docking Station is a simple and elegant way to increase the utility of your Surface Pro 3—the tablet that can replace your laptop. With the Surface Pro 3 Docking Station, it’s also the tablet that can become your desktop,” M’soft said.

The Surface Pro 3 docking station is expected to ship August 15.
