Amazon (AMZN) to Open Its First Physical Store, Report

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, it has been revealed that online retail giant Amazon.com (AMZN) plans to open its first brick-and-mortar store on Manhattan’s busy 34th St. The store, which is located across from the Empire State Building in Midtown, will open just in time for this year’s holiday season.

The experimental pop-up store, notes the report, will function as a small warehouse, holding limited inventory for same-day deliveries within New York, product returns and exchanges, and pickups of online orders. Amazon also may consider using the space to showcase inventory, particularly its devices like the Kindle e-readers, Fire smartphone or Fire TV set-top box, the report said, citing people familiar with the company’s thinking.

Shares of Amazon fell 1.87% to $316.65 in recent trading.
