Bill Gates’ New Sci-Tech Company

According to a report from TechFlash, a news site that covers the technology industry in the Pacific Northwest — Microsoft (MSFT) founder and chairman Bill Gates has plans to start a new company that will be called bgC3 LLC.

The public documents, says TechFlash – describe Mr. Gates new entity, which was established in March 2008, not as a tech start-up or as a commercial venture. The quietly created company is instead structured as a ‘technological think tank’ and as a vehicle to help coordinate Mr. Gates’ work on his business and philanthropic efforts. However, bgC3 (according to a Gates insider) will also oversee Mr. Gates’ personal pursuit of breakthrough ideas in science and technology, and other research interests.

bgC3, which stands for Bill Gates, catalyst and the number three for this being software mogul’s third venture, following Microsoft and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will be located in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland – which is next to Redmond-based Microsoft and a relatively short drive from Gates’ mansion on Lake Washington. Sources told TechFlash that the small offices near Gates’ home are filled with high-tech Microsoft paraphernalia, including a Surface tabletop computer with a virtual guestbook application.

Bill Gates, still the richest man in America with a net worth of $57 billion according to Forbes, remains Microsoft’s chairman and continues to work part-time on projects. However, his focus has expanded beyond computer science. Gates interests now include alternative energies, biotechnology, and global economics.
