Apple (AAPL) said Tuesday it sold three million iPads as of Monday, 80 days after its introduction in the United States.
“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs said in a press release. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”
Wall Street analysts have been looking for about 8 million iPads to be sold by Apple this fiscal year. The announcement comes as Apple’s iPhone 4 is also shaping up to be a blockbuster.
On May 31, Apple reported that iPad sales had topped two million in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3.
Apple’s shares were up 1.57% at $274.38 in recent trading.
