Congressman Weiner Expected to Resign Thursday

NBC news reports that embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner, who  has been at a treatment facility at an undisclosed location since last weekend, plans to resign his seat in Congress following a two-week scandal created by X-rated photos the New York lawmaker took of himself and sent online to several women.

“It’s my understanding that later in the day he will have a news conference,” House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi was quoted as saying.

According to NBC, Weiner — who initially denied having sent any inappropriate photos, but later recanted and admitted having exchanged inappropriate messages with several women — telephoned Pelosi and Rep. Steve Israel of New York, the head of the party campaign committee, on Wednesday evening to tell them of his plans to quit.

The New York Democrat has planned a news conference for 2:00 p.m ET Thursday afternoon in Brooklyn to announce his resignation.
