Is Amazon.com (AMZN) getting ready to launch an Android tablet? According to Engadget, Silicon Valley analyst Tim Bajarin predicts the e-commerce giant should launch a 10-inch LCD Android tablet before the holiday season. Bajarin also says he’s heard of a 7-inch model that uses NVIDIA’s (NVDA) new quad-core Tegra SoC.
Bajarin made the assertions after talking to sources in Taiwan, the publication reports.
Several weeks ago, Digitmes released a story that said Taiwanese notebook maker Quanta Computer had received a monthly order from Amazon for up to 800,000 tablet to be produced per month. Whether the tablets, which are expected to start shipping as soon as the second half of 2011, will be Android based remains to be seen. But with an Android store in place — launched earlier this year — it’s only logical that Amazon’s next move can only be with Google’s (GOOG) Android.
AMZN is down $3.38, or 1.70%, to $195.27 at 1:02 pm E.T. in Nasdaq composite trading.
Update:
The 7-inch and 10-inch tablets that Amazon intends to launch will sell for about $349 and about $449, respectively, according to Bajarin’s sources.
