AllThingsD is reporting today (Friday) that chief executives of Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) (Steve Ballmer) and Yahoo (YHOO) (Carol Bartz) met last week face-to-face to discuss potential partnerships between the companies’ Internet search and advertising operations.
The talks between the pair and other execs at both companies have been wide-ranging, the blog reported, including discussion of the potential for Microsoft to handle Yahoo’s search ad business, and for Yahoo to combine and run the two companies’ display advertising business.
Kara Swisher of the Journal’s AllThingsD blog — who first reported the discussions — described the talks as “preliminary” and cautioned “the discussions are not about a renewed acquisition attempt by Microsoft and also might not result in any deal.” [via AllThingsD]
