“Bloomberg Risk Takers” profiles Michael Burry, the former-head of Scion Capital LLC who accurately predicted the housing calamity long before anyone. The piece focuses on how Mr. Burry came up with his forecast that the housing bubble would burst as early as 2007, and he acted on his analysis by convincing Wall Street firms to sell him CDS on collateralized mortgages that Burry personally selected. Big warning signs for him included the mania in the mortgage market and lending standards that were virtually nonexistent.
The former hedge-fund manager was profiled in Bloomberg columnist and bestselling author Michael Lewis’ book “The Big Short”.
