Techrunch has reported that Web portal Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) is in talks over a “deep content partnership” with The Huffington Post. The reports also says that there are “rumblings” that Yahoo wants to buy the news site outright, but that the valuation may be too high.
Buying HuffPo would not be cheap. According to Techrunch, the news site is on track to generate $60 million in revenue this fiscal year, and $100 million in 2012. If you value the HuffPo 6x or 7x next year’s revenue, it would cost Yahoo at least $360 million today, or much more a year from now, TC said.
Yahoo recently acquired Associated Content for more than $100 million.
