Dell Introduces iPad’s Competition

Round Rock, Texas-based Dell Inc. (DELL) said it will enter the growing tablet market with the introduction of the Streak in Britain in June and in the United States later in the summer.

The five-inch tablet, which will be a smaller alternative to Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPad will first be carried by Telefonica unit O2 and will run on Google Inc. (GOOG) Android OS. Streak will also use a snapdragon processor from Qualcomm (QCOM).

“The Dell Streak is a compact and powerful companion for people who want to expand their ability to access their digital lives on the go, and realize tomorrow’s technology today,” Dell said in a statement. “The spacious 5-inch screen is ideal for experiencing thousands of Android Market widgets, games and applications, all without squinting or compromising portability.

Dell said the device will come with a camera, built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and available 3G connectivity.
