GM to Start Battery Production on Thursday

Freep.com is reporting that General Motors is to begin battery pack production at its new Brownstown Township factory on Thursday.

The lithium-ion battery packs will be used in the Chevrolet Volt electric car, which is to begin production later this year.

Editors’ Note: A123 Systems (AONE) designs, develops, manufactures and sells advanced, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and battery systems. Co. was in the running to build the Chevy Volt’s battery packs but lost the round to Compact Power, a subsidiary of LG Chem. The co. is engaged in design and development efforts with several passenger vehicle manufacturers, including GM and Think Global AS.
