Forbes magazine has published a list of America’s top ten performing banks. The list’s ranking, which was done in partnership with SNL Financial, is based on eight financial metrics, including:
- Return on average equity
- Net interest margin
- Non-performing loans as a percentage of loans and as a percentage of assets
- Reserves as a percentage of non-performing loans
- Two capital ratios (Tier 1 and risk-based)
- Leverage ratio
Releasing the list Forbes said it ranked all the banks it looked at on each measure and added up the individual ranks. Forbes also points out that the size of the banks SNL considered for its list range from Harleysville National, with assets over $5 billion, to behemoth Bank of America (BAC) and its $2.3 trillion of assets.
