In what appears to be an Apple (AAPL) licensed venture, e-commerce company eBay Inc (EBAY) has launched an Apple Certified Refurbished Product Store for second-hand Macbooks, iPads and iPods. The online retailer and auction house claims each product meets Apple’s own refurbishment standards, and each comes with an AppleCare Protection Plan and a full one-year warranty. Additionally, all iPad and iPod lines include a brand new battery.
For example, a 64-gigabytes [GB] Apple-certified refurbished, 3rd-gen, Wi-Fi-only Black iPad can be purchased for $549 compared to $699 brand new, a $150, or 21 percent discount. And a 15.4″ Apple MacBook Pro with a 2.4GHz processor, 4GB of synchronous dynamic random access memory and a 750GB hard drive is being offered at $1,699 compared to $1,999 brand new, a $300, or 15 percent discount.
The eBay store currently lists 24 items for sale. All the products are priced exactly the same as Apple’s online store for refurbished products and include the following:
- Full one-year warranty
- Returned to like-new condition
- iPads/iPods include a new battery
- Received complete burn-in testing
- Original iOS re-installed
- Repackaged with manual and cable
- Final quality inspection by Apple
