Wall Street Pit’s Midday Market Gainers: SYKE, KLIC, HLF, BIOS, AEIS

Shares of Sykes Enterprises, Inc (SYKE) advanced 11 percent to $22.88 at the start of trading Tuesday. The operator of call centers was raised to $26 from $24 at Stifel Nicolaus after it reported Q1 (Mar) earnings of $0.35 per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.08 better than the $0.27 (TRI) consensus. First quarter 2011 revenues of $310.2 million ($301.9 million consensus) increased $43.6 million, or 16.3%, from $266.6 million in the comparable quarter last year. The co. also forecast revenue in the second quarter of at least $305 million to $310.0 million, exceeding the average analyst estimate of $304.4 million. Today’s trading range for shares of SYKE has been between $21.28 and $22.88. Volume: 390,000 vs daily average of 273,000. Previous close: $19.91

Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc. (KLIC) gained 16 percent to $10.42 in morning trade on the Nasdaq, the highest intraday price since February 1. The chip equipment maker reported quarterly results above market estimates. For the quarter ended April 2, the company posted a net income of $39.9 million, or $0.54 a share, compared with $21.2 million, or $0.28 a share, y/y. Analysts were expecting $0.36 a share in profit. KLIC said it expects forecast sales in Q3 of at least $255 million, beating the average analyst estimate of $199 million. Volume has exploded with nearly 6 million KLIC shares already trading hands compared to a 3-month daily average volume of 1.16 million. Day’s range: $10.06 to $10.46. Previous close: $9.03.

Nutrition and weight loss company Herbalife Ltd. (HLF) advanced 14 percent, the most in the R1K Index, to $102.58.The seller of weight-loss supplements said its Q1 net income came in at $87.6 million, or $1.41 per share, up from $51.9 million, or $0.83 per share. The Los Angeles based Herbalife also said it expects Q2 profit of as much as $1.48 a share, on sales growth of between 19% and 21%, exceeding the average analyst estimate of $1.43 a share. Today’s trading range for shares of HLF has been between $97.13 – $103.68. Volume: 1.7 million vs daily average of 581,000. Previous close: $90.25.

BioScrip Inc. (BIOS) spiked 32 percent to $6.02 in early trading Tuesday, the most intraday in almost three years. The Elmsford, New York-based specialty pharmaceutical healthcare manager reported Q1 revenue of $439.3 million compared to $335.1 million for the same period a year ago. Net income came in at $2.9 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, beating the average analyst estimate of $0.01 p/d share. Adjusted EBITDA for the first quarter was $16.6 million. BIOS volume has exploded with over 2 million shares already trading hands compared to a 3-month daily average volume of just 337,000 shares. Day’s range: $4.78 – $6.08. Previous close: $4.52.

Advanced Energy Industries Inc. (AEIS) gained more than 15 percent to $15.32 in morning trade on the Nasdaq, the most intraday since July 22. The maker of power conversion products anticipates Q2 2011 results from continuing operations to be between $0.36 to $0.44 a share, above the average analyst estimate of $0.38. The co. forecast sales of $148 million to $160 million. Today’s trading range for shares of AEIS has been between $14.73 –  $15.56. Volume: 1.8 million vs daily average of 538,000. Previous close: $13.51.
