Shares of Amedisys Inc. (AMED) are down nearly 17 percent in midday trading. The nation’s largest home-health-care provider said the Department of Justice issued a civil investigative [CID] demand for clinical and business operation documents concerning the co.’s Medicare billing practices in Alabama.
The CID covers the period starting from Jan. 1, 2003 through to the present.
Amedisys, based in Baton Rouge, La., said it intends to cooperate with the investigations.
AMED shares fell $4.74, or 16.67 %, to $23.75 at 1:21 p.m. ET in Nasdaq composite trading. They closed at $28.43 Monday.
