The DOL reports that in the week ending May 1, the advance figure for initial claims for U.S. unemployment was 444,000, a decrease of 7,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 451,000. This is the third consecutive week the number of claims has dropped. In total, claims have fallen by 42,000 in the three-week span.
