Christiane Amanpour’s Final Thoughts on Leaving CNN

Christiane Amanpour, the face of CNN’s international reporting, signed off from CNN Friday after more than 25 years with the network.

“This is our final broadcast, and I want to say what a privilege it has been to be at CNN for the past 27 years,” Amanpour said. “To have had the opportunity to report the news to you all over the world, from all over the world. I have tried to be your eyes and ears in pursuit of the truth and the stories that beg to be told. That’s been my mission in the field and here in the studio.”

Amanpour is leaving Time Warner’s cable news channel to become anchor of ABC’s “This Week,” which competes with Face the Nation on CBS, Fox News Sunday and Meet the Press on NBC.  In addition to anchoring “This Week,” Amanpour, who started as an assistant on the CNN assignment desk in Atlanta in 1983, will appear on other ABC News programs, as well as anchoring prime-time documentaries on international subjects. At ABC Amanpour replaces George Stephanopoulos who became the new anchor of Good Morning America in December.

  1. Between heidi collins, and the rest of the talent walking out of CNN Amanpour's leaving is jus the final straw. There just is not much reason left to watch CNN, I bet Ted Turner is shaking his head with the rest of us. CNN what the heck are you doing?

  2. CNN – move a bit to the right if you want to upgrade your ratings and compete with Fox.
Unload the Wolf Blitzer types who are intellectual derelicts and get some objective political commentators/analysts.

The Amanpour situation is not only a poor business decision, it is the loss of an extremely capable reporter who was underemployed by CNN.

  3. WHAT!?##!^? No more Christiane, Michelle and Walter!? Come to your senses, CNN! You had the ONLY news program worthy of being on the air, the only RELIABLE, CREDITABLE news on the WHOLE of TV. Bye, bye…..you lost one more U.S. citizen from your news watchers corps. If you REALLY care about CNN and delivering the real news, you’ll get these three news broadcasters back IMMEDIATELY! However, I doubt you REALLY understand the critical dearth of reliable, in depth news available to the U.S. public today.
