Forbes reports that Facebook (FB) COO Sheryl Sandberg has pledged to give away most of her fortune.
Sandberg, who is estimated to be worth around $1 billion, and husband Dave Goldberg said Friday they will join Warren Buffet and Bill and Melinda Gates’ Giving Pledge campaign to give away half their riches either during their lifetime or upon their death.
The 44-year old Sandberg and her husband are two of the seven latest billionaires to sign the Giving Pledge with “The Lean In“ author becoming only the second woman on the donating list after Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx. Forbes also reported that Google (GOOGL)’s first hired employee Craig Silverstein and his wife Mary Obelnicki, Kinko’s founder and serial entrepreneur Paul Orfalea and his wife Natalie and transport tycoon Ann Gloag also became signatories.
“We are thrilled to welcome this diverse group of business leaders and philanthropists to the pledge,” said Buffett. “They bring a wealth of expertise to the group. We will learn a lot from their experiences as we collectively aim to inspire one another to earlier and better giving.”
