Juergen Matthes is Senior Economist at the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft - IW Köln), the largest privately financed economic think tank in Germany.

Since 2003 he has been responsible for the IW’s International Economic Policy department. His economic studies were undertaken in Dortmund and Dublin (1988-1995). He has published on a wide range of issues such as EMU, trade policy, G20 and world economic order, the globalization debate, development issues, and Germany’s export model.
