Banks have sold a record amount of covered bonds this year, as jittery investors backed the ultra-safe forms of debt, in a trend expected to continue in 2011. Worldwide issuance of the bonds has reached $356.5 billion this year – up nearly 20% from 2009, according to data from Dealogic. – FT
