New U.S. claims for jobless benefits rose slightly last week. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits climbed 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 439,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was 443,000, a decrease of 4,000 from the previous week’s revised average of 447,000.
