YouTube Continues to Dominate the Market with 5 Billion Video Views in July

comScore’s (SCOR) Video Metrix service released yesterday July 2008 data for ‘Online Video Views’ where Google (GOOG) sites, once again – maintained a dominant position.

In July, Google Sites held 44% of the online video market share with more than 5 billion videos viewed. Google Sites also attracted the most viewers (92.1 million), who watched an average of 55 videos per person. YouTube.com accounted for more than 98% of all videos viewed, followed by Fox Interactive Media ranking in second place with 446 million videos, claiming only 3.9% market share.

Microsoft (MSFT) came in third with 282 million or 2.5% of the market share. Yahoo (YHOO) Sites ranked fourth with 269 million or 2.4% market share. Hulu ranked eighth with 119 million videos, representing only 1% of all videos viewed.

Online Video Views

75% of the total U.S. Internet audience viewed online videos with an average duration of 2.9 minutes.
