Despite Apple’s (AAPL), iPhone latest UK complications, the Cupertino-based company is performing quite well in the consumer market as it keeps gaining market share from its competitors. According to ChangeWave’s Aug. 11-21 survey of almost 2,000 respondents involved with IT spending – Apple is showing considerable momentum in terms of corporate planned purchases. 17% of respondents planning to buy a Blackberry, Palm (PALM), or iPhone said they would switch to Apple’s products in the fourth quarter. That’s a gain of 4 points from May’s 13%-conclusion survey.
Research In Motion (RIMM) continues to dominate the market with 79% in terms of planned Q4’08 smartphone purchases. The overall percentage is still high, but it’s down a full 3 points, from 82% in May’08. For the moment at least, the Canadian-based wireless device company, notes Changewave – “appears to be confronted with visibility issues on both the consumer and corporate fronts”.
In terms of market visibility, 29% of the respondents stated their co’s IT spending will most likely decrease in Q4’08, up 5 points from 24% in the May poll.
