How long the potential merging deal between Yahoo! (YHOO) and Microsoft (MSFT) will drag on, is anyone’s a guess. In the meantime, here is the latest development.
From Reuters: Yahoo-AOL deal unlikely before Aug 1: source
A potential deal between Yahoo Inc and Time Warner Inc’s AOL division is unlikely before Yahoo’s annual meeting on August 1, a person familiar with the negotiations said on Monday.
Yahoo and AOL have been talking about merging their Internet operations for a few months, but the talks now factor in the expected boost to Yahoo’s bottom line as a result of its search advertising deal with Google Inc, the source said.
Prior to this latest news, AllThingsD.com reported that Microsoft is possibly backing billionaire investor Carl Icahn in his quest to unseat Yahoo’s leadership and board. Investor Gordon Crawford is also in the picture. Crawford told Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang in a face-to-face meeting last week that he was seriously considering voting against Yahoo in the looming proxy fight.
