According to ChinaTechNews – Sohu.com Inc. (SOHU), a leading Internet media company in China, is considering rolling out its own Internet browser software. The detailed timetable however, in terms of when the software will be available to users, has not been released.
Wang Xiaochuan, senior vice president of Sohu.com, revealed his company’s plans during a recent lecture he held in Tsinghua University. Mr. Xiachuan said that Sohu plans to launch a browser software to compete with Opera, Google’s Chrome (GOOG), Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (MSFT), and Maxthon, which combined own up to 80% of the market share.
The most distinctive feature of this browser is that users on education networks will be able to log directly on to internet, which means the browser will have a built-in proxy function. Having launched many software products like Sogou’s Pinyin input method, Web applications and desktop applications, Sohu.com’s browser product, notes ChinaTechNews – is expected to further integrate its product line.
