Robert Kelly, chairman and CEO of Bank of New York Mellon Corp. (BK), is in talks to become CEO at Bank of America/Merrill (BAC), according Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the situation.
Bank of New York Mellon Corp. Chief Executive Robert Kelly, who has been approached several times about succeeding the retiring BofA CEO Kenneth Lewis, slammed the door in early November on the prospect of becoming the next Bank of America chief executive. The speculation continued to swirl however, that he was not completely out of the running.
Kelly resurfaced as a possibility to succeed Ken Lewis after the company received approval last week to repay $45 billion in TARP money.
Bank of America’s board could make a CEO announcement next week, said people familiar with the process.
