The NY Empire State survey recently checking in with its fifth month/month improvement and best reading since June 2006 does offer further proof that manufacturing activity continues to improve and bodes well for July economic conditions.

Nonetheless, the futures market was trading at improved levels before the data hit the wires.

a surprisingly strong read on regional manufacturing conditions, and the likelihood that Q2 earnings growth won't be as anemic as previously thought are preventing an even more aggressive attempt by sellers to take some money off the table....DOW +33 points NAS stil in red territory -1.51

Dow still leads the way among the majors and is now within 18 points away from hitting the 14,000 milestone after breaching initial resistance near 13,960
