Thomas Helbling is an advisor in the IMF’s Research Department where he focuses on commodity market prospects and issues. He holds a doctorate in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva.

Prior to his current positions, he held assignments in the Research, Western Hemisphere, and Middle Eastern Department of the IMF. His research interests are in international business cycle linkages, international aspects of inflation, commodity price formation, and economic history.
