Frank Heiland

Frank Heiland is Associate Professor of Economics at Florida State University and Assistant Professor of Public Affairs at Baruch College, City University of New York. He is also a research affiliate of the Michigan Retirement Research Center at the University of Michigan.
His research is in labor, family, and health economics and he has worked on a wide range of topics: retirement, housing wealth, obesity, child wellbeing, fertility preferences, and migration. He has published on the effect of the early retirement rules of the US Social Security system on labor supply and benefit claiming behavior, the social dynamics of obesity, the effects of fertility and parental relationship status on child wellbeing, and on the determinants of East-West German migration after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
His articles have been published in Economic Inquiry, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Applied Economics, the European Journal of Population, and Demographic Research. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Social Security Administration.
He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
