Nancy Pelosi Tells Anthony Weiner to Step Down

Nancy Pelosi, the House Minority leader, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Committee chair, called on Representative Anthony D. Weiner to resign on Saturday,” the NYDailyNews reports.

[From NYDN]: “It is with great disappointment that I call on Representative Anthony Weiner to resign,” said Congresswoman Schultz of Florida, calling the scandal a “sordid affair.”

“The behavior he has exhibited is indefensible and Representative Weiner’s continued service in Congress is untenable,” she said.

Pelosi said Weiner “needs help” and he should get some “without the pressures of being a member of Congress, AP reports.

Pelosi’s call comes after Mr. Weiner recognized on Friday he previously exchanged a minimum of five private messages on Twitter this spring with a 17-year-old Delaware girl, but indicated that the communications were “neither explicit nor indecent.”
