New Jobless Claims Unexpectedly Rise to 484,000

Initial requests for unemployment benefits rose by 2,000 to 484,000 in the August 7 week after seasonal adjustment, according to data released by the U.S. Labor Department Thursday. Economists had expected claims to edge down to 469,000.
