Simply Put, Things Have Gotten Worse In Ohio

Rising unemployment and stagnant wages have pushed record numbers of Ohioans into poverty. That poverty is rising in Ohio is no surprise. Even before the recession started in late 2007, the state’s poverty rates were printing highs for the decade. The trend began as a result of sinking wages and increasing food, housing, transportation, health-care, utility, and other costs. NBC’s Ann Curry travels to Ohio “where the hardworking poor, with deep traditions in mining, manufacturing and military service, are increasingly seen in food pantry lines ashamed and angry.”
