Portugal to Increase VAT in Bid to Cut Deficit Faster

Portugal will cut wages of top government officials and temporarily raise taxes in a bid to narrow its budget deficit faster than previously planned, Prime Minister Jose Socrates told a press conference in Lisbon today.
