On balancing loans with gaining capital:

“It comes with the job. We need to continue to make every good loan we can see. On the other hand, we have to raise capital. At the end of the day the banking system should have more capital.”

On increasing the value of the company’s stock price:

“My job is to run the company well and do what I can to create earnings for shareholders.”

“The banking system has been successful doing both things.”

On customer backlash on taking Tarp funds:

“We have been very active in working with them through their times of need but also make sure we keep money flowing.”

On preventing another economic crisis:

“The creation of a systemic risk regulator with resolution authority is a critical step for the country to take.”
