Two employees who ran the computer where Bernie Madoff created the fake statements have been arrested Friday on charges they helped cover up the disgraced money manager’s massive fraud for more than 15 years. According to the SEC, the two men provided the technical expertise needed to produce false documents and trading records, and took money to help keep the scheme going.

Connell McShane: We just learned of breaking news in the Bernie Madoff case. Adam Shapiro is here to tell us about it. What do you know Adam?
Adam Shapiro: There have been two arrests in the Madoff case. Two key players from Madoff’s firm. Two men by the name of George Perez and Jerry O’Hara worked in the I.T. department for Mr. Madoff. They ran the computer—remember everyone talks about the computer on the 17th floor where Madoff actually printed the returns that he would send out to people—the statements that he would send to his victims. Mr. Perez and Mr. O’Hara were the I.T. employees who ran that computer. We have confirmation that they have been arrested and are being charged in the Madoff scheme. No comment from the U.S. Attorney’s office on this as of yet, but we do have word that those two key players from the Madoff firm have been arrested. That would now bring two more people into the charges. At this point there have only been three people who have been charged. Perez and O’Hara have been arrested.
