Jacques Chirac, former French president, is to stand trial for abuse of public funds during his time as mayor of Paris, it was announced on Friday. Mr Chirac, along with nine others, is accused of creating 21 fictitious municipal jobs for friends and political allies in the RPR party that fuelled his rise to power. Mr Chirac, 76, would be the first former head of state in France to stand trial.
