Morning Buzz: Anavex (AVXL), WaferGen Bio-systems (WGBS), Wal-Mart (WMT), Amazon.com (AMZN)

Shares of Anavex Life Sciences Corp. (AVXL) are higher by nearly 22% to $7.21 in pre-market trading on Monday after the biopharmaceutical company announced today the publication of further data for ANAVEX 3-71 in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Neurodegenerative disease. Life Sciences said the study results “reveal that ANAVEX 3-71 effects a strong reversal of synaptic loss in hippocampal neurons. At very low doses, it mitigates cognitive deficits and normalizes major pathological hallmarks in Alzheimer’s disease models indicating that ANAVEX 3-71 exerts a comprehensive disease-modifying effect.”

Shares of WaferGen Bio-systems, Inc. (WGBS) are up almost 28% to $1.06 in pre-market trading Monday. The spike is attributed to Martin Shkreli, the CEO of KalaBios (KBIO) and his intention on analyzing WGBS, Repros Therapeutics (RPRX), Mirna Therapeutics, Inc. (MIRN) and ProNAi Therapeutics (DNAI), per the request of the people following his live stream.

Wal-Mart (WMT), Target (TGT), Amazon.com (AMZN) — Keep an eye on these retail names today, with the National Retail Federation estimating U.S. holiday shopping is on track for a 3.7% rise this year to $630.5 billion.  The average increase in holiday sales for the past 10 years is 3.1%.
