Midday Buzz: Yahoo (YHOO), Pixelworks (PXLW), Apple Inc. (AAPL), Voltari Corporation (VLTC)

Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) recently traded at $43.39, a 0.56% gain over Tuesday’s closing price. The National Football League (NFL) announced today that it has selected Yahoo! Inc. as its exclusive partner to deliver the first-ever live stream of an NFL game to a global audience across devices and for free. This partnership will bring the NFL’s International Series game in London, between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars on October 25, to Yahoo properties globally, including Yahoo, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Screen and Tumblr, which attract more than one billion monthly users.

Shares of Pixelworks, Inc. (PXLW) are surging by 19% to $6.55 on heavy volume in midday trading on Wednesday following an article, from yesterday, noting a design win at Asus. Article is also being cited as a positive for Apple as it is mentioned positively in the story.

Pixelworks stock is trading on heavy volume with 2.1 million shares changing hands, well ahead of its three month daily average of 232K shares.

Showtime announced Wednesday that it is launching a stand-alone streaming service in mid-July through a partnership with Apple (AAPL), making the premium channel available for the first time without a cable subscription.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) shares were up $0.12, or 0.09%, to $130.08 as of 1:35 p.m. ET.

Voltari Corporation (VLTC) shares are up 29% to $7.95 in midday trading. The move comes on a big volume too with the issue currently trading more than 5.5 million shares, compared to the average volume of 3.7 million shares. Not seeing any news or rumors to account for the move.
