The Mortgage Bankers Association’s index of applications to purchase a home or refi a loan rose 13% to 668.5 in the week ended Sept. 18 from 592.8 in the prior week. The group’s gauge of refinancing surged 17% and its measure of purchases climbed 5.6%.
