Surge in Volume Lifts Apple (AAPL) Stock

For about 30-minutes buyers attempted to drive shares of Apple Inc. (AAPL) through the $100.00 barrier only to see their efforts thwarted. Shares quickly gave up 15-cents before the next assault began. The chart below shows a massive burst of volume that lifted the stock convincingly through the critical barrier. In the space of just 15-seconds, buyers cleared the decks lifting 1.614mm shares and created a vacuum among sellers, allowing the share price to quickly gain another 35-cents. The volume surge is more than 60-times the average volume of a 15-second timeframe when shares in Apple trade on daily volume of around 33mm. The all-time high for Apple stands at $100.72.
